Denmark is pushing for more ambitious global climate action
The Danish Minister of Energy, Utilities and Climate has joined a number of other ambitious countries in releasing a Declaration of Ambition on international climate policy to drive the world towards intensified global climate action.
The Danish Government is together with other ambitious countries showing its cli-mate leadership and aiming to ensure the full potential of the Paris Agreement by keep its implementation and obtainment on a tight leash. The participating coun-tries of the “A Declaration of Ambition” is committing to exploring the possibilities of for stepping up their own climate ambitions. Furthermore, the countries are high-lighting the importance of adopting strong implementation guidelines at COP24 in December in order to unlock the full potential of the Paris Agreement. Lastly, the countries are underlining their strong support to the United Nations Secretary-General, António Guterres, and his initiative of convening a Climate Summit in 2019.
“I am very pleased to be at the forefront of international climate action together with some of the world’s most ambitious countries. Collectively, we are showing our support to the UN Secretary-General and his climate leadership ahead of the scheduled Climate Summit in 2019 – I believe that we are sending a strong and important message to the rest of the world in our pursuit of reaching the goals of the Paris Agreement,” said Lars Chr. Lilleholt, the Danish Minister of Energy, Utilities and Climate.
The Declaration of Ambition includes:
- A commitment to exploring the possibilities for stepping up the countries’ own ambitions.
- An underscoring of the importance of adopting strong implementation guidelines at COP24 in December.
- Recognition of the UN Secretary-General’s international climate leadership and the im-portance of the 2019 Climate Summit.
- 23 countries have signed the declaration.
